Online Meetings for Worship
Online Meetings for Worship have many similarities to in-person meetings. They are places where we come together in shared silence and stillness to find connection and wait for promptings that may guide our lives.
Some Quaker Meetings hold online Meetings for Worship separate to their in-person meetings. Others have blended meetings, where we meet in-person and online in the same meeting.
Perhaps the first place to try an online meeting is with Woodbrooke.
During the pandemic, Woodbrooke started holding online Meetings for Worship. These proved to be so popular that the number of meetings increased and there is now least one meeting each day, except Saturdays. Most of the meetings are 30 minutes, with a couple each week lasting an hour.
‘Lighthouse Epilogue’ - 15 minutes, every evening, 9pm (UK time)
Zoom room opens at 8.50 pm.
During this daily evening meeting a Friend may share a piece of writing, music or an image, after which reflective sharing is welcome. Or very occasionally the Epilogue maybe unstructured. It has been compared to unwrapping a present.
Those attending sit with the offering and may be moved to speak. From 9.15pm, if Friends choose to stay, there is an opportunity to continue holding the worshipful space and then brief conversation. Around 20 people have been joining the session each evening. Some Friends come regularly and some dip in and out, perhaps weekly or very occasionally. All are welcome.
New people are welcome to join the Epilogue, either to see how it feels, or on a more regular basis. If you would like access to the Zoom link, please contact Lighthouseepilogue@gmail.com.
North Wales Online Meeting / Cyfarfod Addoli Gogledd Cymru
Open to all - not just those in North Wales!
Friends meet via Zoom every Sunday at 10.15 for an hour's worship that begins at 10.30. This is followed by reflections on that worship, notices and then a friendly, and often humorous, chat. All are welcome. While English is the language most often used, Friends also speak Welsh, often translating for non-Welsh speakers.
There is also a shorter, thirty minute worship each Wednesday starting at 17.30. This is a worship-only occasion with no reflections or notices. Again, all are welcome.
If you would like the Zoom link for our worship please email the clerk of the Online Meeting, Ruth. Her email address is ruth5vr@gmail.com
